Bullish Engulfing

A small red candle followed by a large green candle whose body completely engulfs the prior session's body (open below the prior close, close above the prior open).

Pattern shape

What it means

Sellers were in control on day one, but day two opened lower and buyers pushed it through the prior open. Sentiment shift: supply absorbed, demand back.

Confirmation to wait for

Strongest when the engulfing candle's volume exceeds the prior candle's volume and a real downtrend precedes the setup.

Failure mode

Inside a range, two-candle engulfings are common noise. The engulfing must follow a measurable downtrend to count as a reversal.

Detection rule

prev.close < prev.open (red) AND curr.close > curr.open (green) AND curr.open ≤ prev.close AND curr.close ≥ prev.open AND curr body > prev body. Prior 5-day downtrend.
